"Painting is when you give energy to the boss of you" ...my almost five year old said this to me a few months ago. He is now five and I still think this is one of the most brilliant things he has ever said. Isn't that what creativity is all about, allowing yourself to embrace the energy? What a gift! I feel so blessed this Thanksgiving to have my son, husband and painting in my life...of course along with many friends and family.
Embracing this energy is what we did on Thanksgiving day as we approached the cemetery to visit my husbands mother. She passed a month ago today, and Thanksgiving was the first day that his father had visited the grave site since the funeral. As I approached the grave site, I could only notice this amazing fall day with the most beautiful fall leaves. Something overwhelmed me, and I started gathering leaves with my son.We proceeded to create a color field of leaves over the complete space of the grave site. Embracing the energy of the surrounding colors with the love we brought. I could feel her smiling with a chuckle of enthusiasm.
I found a leaf on the ground outside my studio with the exact colors I mixed to paint the edges of a commision I just finished. When I got home there was an unfamiliar leaf broach of the same colors on the bathroom counter, I later learned it belonged to my mother-in-law. The visit ended with in my son giving me a hand ful of leaves to take back to the studio to paint. Color, Shape and the Feeling it brings is that energy I give to the boss of my body- Thank you my son!
